This selection is done on the basis of popularity. Also the junior high school students in the similar way elect a Promenade Prince and Promenade Princess for that particular batch. Also a group of students are chosen that are given the title of Promenade Court. This group of students are those who excel in sports and other extracurricular activities in school. After awarding these honours all the students dance and they celebrate their final year.

There is a common longing for promenade night in all the students when they reach high school. Girls are very enthusiastic about what they are going to wear on the event. They all want to look their best. In some of the schools the best Prom dress is also given a special prize. Most commonly white shirt with black trousers, and a black blazer. And to complete the effect a bow-tie is worn too. This bow can be of different colours. Some of the boys wear it the colour of their girls dress. They all try to look like little gentlemen. With all the preparation to wear the best dress and steal the show this Promenade night ends with a grand dinner.
